Signup for Band at GMS
I want to personally invite any incoming student to Gray Middle School to be part of the band. Gray Middle School has a long tradition of being one of the best bands in Kentucky. If your child loves music and is interested in learning how to play an instrument, let me tell you about how your child can be part of the band.
“Music is so good for a child's development, and band gives students who are new to Gray a chance to join a community of good kids!” Current GMS Band Parent
“A few reasons I love band are you can hang out with your friends, you can play an instrument, you get to listen to Mr. Gibbs (The funniest guy you'll meet), and it's a good way to learn something you actually want to learn.” Natalie Schierberg, 8th Grade
What is band like:
• Students love music
• Students’ musical skills are improving technically and expressively
• All students, regardless of ability, feel successful and proud to be in band
• The community is aware that band is a strength of the school
• The program is growing in enrollment and accomplishments
• There is an expectation of excellence throughout the program
What are the next steps? I will be visiting Mann Elementary on April 21. I will be visiting New Haven Elementary on April 25. I will be answering questions from students and demonstrating different instruments they can select from. You and your child can come to our Instrument Try Out Night at Gray Middle School on Thursday, May 4 from 6-7:30 pm (more details to come). All instruction is free and all that is necessary is for you to obtain an instrument for your child. Participating in band does not interfere with after school activities.
Below you find recruitment information. Watch the videos, look over the rental information, and decide what instrument you want to learn. Think about what your favorite instrument is, but remember we can always change it later when school starts.
You can choose a pathway to flute, oboe, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, french horn, trombone, baritone, tuba, and percussion. We start students in the beginning: flute, clarinet, trumpet, french horn, trombone, baritone to start on the fundamentals of each instrument and then proceed to the instruments.
If finances are a concern, please don't worry about it. We have an inventory of instruments such as tubas, baritone, french horns, and some smaller instruments for families that may be financially constrained.
Parents fill out the Google Form to sign your child up for band. You do not to make your final choice now but tell me what your preference is at this time for scheduling purposes.
Thanks for allowing your child to take this first step in furthering their music education!
